Those darned apostates
by berrygerry injuly 15, 1992 wt.
"apostates capitalize on errors or seeming mistakes made by brothers who take the lead.
our safety lies in avoiding apostate propaganda as though it were poison, which in fact it is.".

And how they can come up with a term "present truth" is also mind-boggling. So Orwellian. -

Remember this scripture: kindly yoke, light load, refreshment for your soul...
by Muddy Waters inmatthew 11:28-30 "come to me, all you who are toiling and loaded down, and i will refresh you.
29 take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for i am mild-tempered and lowly in heart, and you will find refreshment for yourselves.
30 for my yoke is kindly, and my load is light.. do you remember this scripture?

omg, lovely comments, thank you, would like to address them personally...
but YES, - stuckinarut2, all those things you mentioned:
- 12 hours of service every month,
- be at every meeting,
- answer at least twice,
- bring studies,
- conduct family worship,
- do personal study of the organization's publications,
- not associate with non-witnesses...
...
(and I will add some here! So fun!)
- cleaning/repairing/buying/selling/renovating Kingdom Halls,
- counting all your field service hours & literature placement$ (but nowhere on that slip is a spot to say that you placed an actual BIBLE!);
- and don't be involved in any other charity or good work except the placement of WT literature & the building of KHs & huge branch facilities! - which are the only and best and most wonderful acts of charity and kindness there ever could be -- all those silly things like helping needy or destitute people by giving them food, clothing or shelter produces only scavenging, useless "rice Christians" who could never appreciate the awesomeness of the tracts and those flimsy magazines! -- and which are the only and most awesome thing needed today in these momentous(TM) times.
(Excuse me while I choke).
Because of course Jesus said all these things.
Jesus clearly commanded or told us to do all those things mentioned above --
- (and even more! Oh, oh! So exciting!) - I just thought of the wonderful and blessed gift of the special elder's-only book -- (even though we are all one and are united and have no leader) --
It is quite clear that Jesus -- or, excuse me, Jehovah himself said all those things, or Jehovah through Jesus -- told us that we need to do all those things.
It is all clearly laid out for us in the Bible (while keeping our load light and refreshing...)
It is all stated very clearly for us in the Bible at... uhhhh... In the bible book of.... Well, you know. Those very important words that Jesus said were also surely referenced quite clearly in those visions claimed by John, in some really wild Revelations to all those letters to those troubled congregations. Yes, we can read all about that counsel to the congregations. Please turn with me to Revelation.... (Ha! Did you notice my clever bait-and-switch? The red herring? The non-sequiturs? The wiggle and squirm and saying something else totally off topic and attempting to induce guilt at the same time? (Jesus' words turning into 'counsel'!) bah!!!
... Must ... Come ... Back ... To... Reality....
Whew. Hasn't this been refreshing...?*gag*

Do you remember this scripture? Did anyone actually feel that way or did you question it or yourself whenever this verse was read? I always thought something was wrong with me whenever I felt burdened on their treadmill of unrelenting busywork. I must not be spiritual enough if I felt the work was too heavy or burdensome.
But the cognitive dissonance would keep nibbling at me, trying to fit this scripture in with the way I felt, and how it just didn't add up.
(It was similar to that other scripture in James about looking after widows and orphans and knowing that we didn't really do this very well, if at all.)
What were your thoughts or feelings whenever this verse from Matthew was read?

15 Years of Jehovahs-Witness.com
by Simon inyes, today is the forum's 15th birthday!.
i never thought for one moment that it would survive this long or have so many people post so many great subjects over the years.. it is still humbling when i get pm's or emails from people expressing how the site has helped them and of course thanks goes to all the posters who have shared their experiences and make helpful and supportive comments to others who are in the sometimes difficult process of learning the real truth about 'the truth'.. the site has gone through several different incarnations over the last 15 years running on different platforms, different databases and different hosts but we've been able to keep all the old topics.
the current site is still being developed and i'm hoping to push another major upgrade soon.. i also may have some other news to share soon about the future of the site so stay posted.. until then, here's the the next 15 years!

Simon, I congratulate you and A. This site is a wealth of information, research, discussion, helpful advice, compassion and understanding from people who "get it", who know and share our common experience and pains. Thank you. -

Tony's life story
by life is to short inso i finally read tony's life story and this one point really hit me where he was talking about his son's.
on page 7 he say's "because they made the truth their own, they make susan and me look good.
so those who children leave the "truth" look bad?.

Tony's little life story just confirms that this religion is all about appearances. He and his wife are able to "look good" because their kids stayed "in the truth".
All about appearances. I guess Jehovah must not look very good to Tony because Jehovah had "kids" who didn't stay faithful. Poor Jehovah. Maybe Tony can give Jah some pointers when he becomes a spirit king.... The bible seems to be missing many key points and advice.

To Wing Commander: the grammar is correct in the sentence, ".... they make Susan and me look good." If you remove the other person from the phrase, the sentence would read, "... they make me look good." One would not say, "... they make I look good."
This is the test you can use: remove the other person or persons from the sentence to see whether you use "I" or "me".
Another example: "Susan and I went to the store." If you remove the other person, the sentence becomes "I went to the store." vs "Me went to the store." So in this example, the use of "I" is correct.
Clear as mud?

Mind control.
by New day inin a recent thread someone mentioned that the wtbts uses mind control techniques.
do you think this is a conscious ploy?
if it is it would mean that the leaders of my religion (i am still an active jw) set out consciously to control people.

Hm. Let's just sit in on an imaginary meeting at a district/regional convention or a special assembly... I shall paraphrase from memory some expressions and phrases of the "programs". See if any of this sounds familiar or rings a bell....
FIRST, we are briefed at every assembly to pay attention, to pay close attention, to make notes... "so that our ears can be ready to hear the things heard." We hear how spiritual people pay attention to spiritual things (unlike being fleshly people paying attention to fleshly things)... How listening to Jehovah (and his organization) means life, and that we must "incline our ear and our heart to understanding..."
Then, the speaker may ask or say things like this:
"Are we willing to be humble and accept the truths presented? ...Do we show and demonstrate that we value the teachings of our great god Jehovah AND his organization? Do we display a sheeplike disposition...? Are we ready to readjust our thinking on matters?
"You Parents, are you being faithful in training up a boy in the way he should go? Are you regularly ... blah blah blah... And are you regularly inculcating these truths into your child's heart...? Are you loyal to Jehovah by showing that you are bringing up your son or daughter in the discipline and mental-regulating* of Jehovah...? Does your life give evidence of this? What is your pattern or custom ...? How regular are you in field service, personal study, family study, meeting attendance... (How many of these activities are related to doing and thinking the same thing, over and over and over...?)
...
... Hm. I find it "interesting" that when at the meetings, one might wonder about mind control or mind control techniques....
* (the creepy, weird phrase "mental-regulating" has been replaced in the new New World Translation at Ephesians chapter 6 - something.
